2016-17 Board of Directors
As a nonprofit organization, Great Lakes Waldorf Institute has a Board of Directors that helps to ensure the fiscal and legal well-being of the institute and its programs.
We have warm and respectful monthly meetings that begin and end with a verse and include study. We are currently seeking people to serve on our Board. Please see this Case for Board Membership for more information about GLWI Board service.
Our current Board members are as follows:
Faith Danneil – President
Faith Danneil is an early childhood teacher at Tamarack Waldorf School. She recently completed Nurturing the Roots: A Three-year Advanced Therapeutic Course for Waldorf Early Childhood Educators. She received her Waldorf Teacher Certification from GLWI, completing both the grades and early childhood training. She holds an MA in Education from Mt. Mary University as well as a BSIR and an MLIS from UW-Milwaukee. She received a diploma from Interlochen Arts Academy with an emphasis in voice and has performed in various settings around the Midwest during the last 20 years. She is a student of Christiaan Boele in The School of Uncovering the Voice. Since her children began attending Tamarack Waldorf School in 2004, Faith has been an active parent volunteer and leader.
Jewell Riano-Bradley, Ed.D. – Vice-President
Jewell Riano-Gradley is retired from a 35-year career in arts education, school administration and educational leadership, including a term of service as interim administrator at Prairie Hill Waldorf School. She currently serves as consultant in educational leadership and works as a practicing artist.
Noel Kegel – Treasurer
Noel Kegel is Chief Financial Officer for Wheel & Sprocket, developing financial modeling and budgets, overseeing bookkeeping and payroll, and ensuring risk management. He is also the owner and product manager for Wheel Toolkit, a cloud-based business intelligence platform distributed to specialty retailers. Noel earned a Business & Entrepreneurship undergraduate degree from McGill University, Montreal, QC, including a year abroad at Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan, and he earned his master’s degree in the School of Oriental & African Studies (Univ. of London), London, UK in Economics with a focus on Chinese Economic Development. His dissertation (with Distinction) was on Organic Agricultural Development in China.
Jane Danner-Sustar – Secretary
Jane Danner-Sustar is a lead kindergarten teacher at Tamarack Waldorf School. Prior to that she worked as a caregiver and cook at LifeWays Childhood Center for eight years. She has a B.A. in Theater Arts from Marquette University, Waldorf Teacher Certification from Great Lakes Waldorf Institute and a LifeWays training certificate. She was raised in Milwaukee and is a parent of six Tamarack Waldorf alumni.
Nancy Notley – Member
Nancy Notley is returning to the GLWI Board having previously served as the Board President. Her 2 sons graduated from Prairie Hill Waldorf School and her 2 oldest grandchildren are attending Whatcom Hills Waldorf School in Bellingham, WA. Nancy served for 6 years as the Enrollment Director at Prairie Hill. Nancy earned her BA in Social Work from Ohio Wesleyan University, MA in Educational Psychology/Counseling from UW Milwaukee and her law degree (JD) from Valparaiso University. Advanced training in mediation along with combining law and counseling led her to focus on the rights of children in cases involving custody, abuse and neglect. In the past decade Nancy became a certified personal trainer and cycling coach and has enjoyed working with women in their middle years becoming more physically active.
Kristen Rydstrom – Member
Kristen Rydstrom is a nonprofit professional who has provided project management services to numerous organizations. She has facilitated several GLWI planning sessions, including our organization’s first values, mission and vision process. She has expertise in community relations, marketing, and fund raising. She has a B.A. in Journalism from the University of California and a Certificate of Completion from GLWI. She has also been a long-time Waldorf school parent.
Dawn Van Kley-Imes – Core Faculty Rep/Member
Dawn has a BA in Studio Art and Psychology from Southern Illinois University, in Carbondale, Illinois. She has been teaching handwork at Prairie Hill Waldorf School since 1990. Dawn has presented workshops in felting wool, knitting, spinning for children and adults. She completed the Juniper Tree Puppetry Training through Suzanne Down 2003-2005, attended Handwork Conferences at Kimberton WS with Margareta Eischenholz, has done Foundation Year Course work at Arcturus, Chicago, IL, and Waldorf Teacher Summer Intensives at GLWI Milwaukee, WI.
Lori Barian – Director of Administration
Lori Barian has been serving as Director of Administration for GLWI since August 2008 on a contract basis. Her professional employment and private contractor work has been primarily in nonprofit administration and development, including work for Prairie Hill Waldorf School, LifeWays Childcare, and Tamarack Waldorf School, and a number of other organizations. She also has been actively involved since 1994 in the Anthroposophical Society as a volunteer, locally, regionally and nationally. She has two children, both alumni of Tamarack Waldorf School.
